Dad's High-Potency Party Mix
I'm adding this recipe today (end of October 2020), because my first-born called from Messiah University, where he's a freshman majoring in biochemistry, and actually whined for me to send him some of my homemade party mix. It's a variation of the version on the Chex cereal box, but mine's a little more potent. This recipe makes a big batch, so get out the roaster pan and have some big containers for storage! Compared to my mom's version, this one substitutes bagel chips and cheerios for Rice Chex and peanuts, but just like mom's, this one has a bit more of the coating than the Chex box recipe.
Ingredients:
9 cups - Corn Chex Cereal 9 cups - Wheat Chex Cereal 5 cups - Cheerios Cereal 4 cups - Sea Salt Bagel Chips (broken into pieces) 4 cups - Pretzels 2 sticks - Butter 3 oz. - Worcestershire Sauce 2 oz. - Kikoman Low Sodium Soy Sauce 5 tsp. - Lowrys Seasoned Salt 3 tsp. - Coarse Garlic Powder 2 tsp. - Onion Powder |
Mix the cereals, bagel chips, and pretzels in a large roasting pan and set aside. Preheat oven to 250 degrees F.
Melt together butter other remaining ingredients in the microwave, stir to mix. Then pour over the cereals, pretzels, and bagel chips in the roasting pan. Mix through several times. Bake at 250 degrees F for 90 minutes, mixing through every 15 minutes to ensure even coating. Spread 0n paper towels to cool before packaging. Send significant quantities to Tyler. |
